Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born- Anais Nin
For the first time since I have arrived in Thailand, I felt like I really was friends with Thai students when I went out with them on Sunday. I was at the Sunday market and they came to pick me up at Tha Pae Gate, whcih is a part of the city center. There were four of them: Mae, Dali, Ping, and Daniel. They all knew a little bit of english, so I was able to communicate with them pretty well. I was the only farang (foreigner in Thai) there, whcih was cool because I got a chance to really hang out with them with out being able to stay attached to any other farang. I tried my best to speak the Thai that I know and asked them some questions like, “khun mar jak ti nai?” which means where are you from. I have known Mae and Dali for a while, but I had only hung out with them a couple times before. Dali asked me to be her roomate after they get back from their break so it was fun to get to spend some time with her (side note: all the thai students classes ended this week becasue they are on a different schedule than we are, which sucks because now they are all going to be gone for 3 weeks!! That should make it easier to make friends with them, right?). I am really looking forward to being her roomate becasue she is so fun, not that I don’t like my roomate now, I just never ever saw her so I never really got to know her. We are also getting temporary two week roomates while the Thai students are gone. I have a japanese exchange student, so that should be fun. She is really cute and nice.
That night was the beginning of me feeling really settled here. I am really looking forward to the next few months and continuing to connect with my new Thai friends. They are so great. Hopefully they can help me get better at my Thai!!!

What great news! Have fun making new friends! love you, Mom
